For Master and Ph.D. students in the social sciences, the University of the Aegean and the University of Amsterdam welcome applications for the Summer School ‘Cultures, Migrations, Borders’ that will take place on the island of Lesbos from June 28 to July 10, 2012.

Are you planning on attending this year s African Studies Association meeting in Philadelphia? I am submitting to ASA the first all-ABORNE Round Table on border/land issues. If you would like to be part of that Round Table proposal, after you have received ASA confirmation of your pre-registration), please send me a paragraph (3 or 4 sentences would do) summarizing your topic, findings, and/or argument that you would like to present. The ASA deadline for panel submissions is coming up soon, so I would need to hear from you by Monday, March 12. Most of the spots are already spoken for, so if you are interested, procrastinate not! Dear all, in case you work on borders in Ethiopia and the related Somali lands (in historical or contemporary perspective) and are interested to participate in the 18th international conference on Ethiopian Studies in Dire Dawa (Ethiopia) end of October 2012, please consider submitting a paper to PANEL 2.08 Moving boundaries - the dynamics of frontiers in tradition and modernity . I will chair it and will be happy to receive also contributions from the Somali camp (Region 5, Ogadeen...). Britain Zimbabwe Society s Annual Research Day 2012 - Zimbabwe and the Region

The Britain Zimbabwe Society’s annual research day will be held on the 16th June at St. Antony’s College, Oxford and will showcase research on ‘Zimbabwe and the Region’. The research day is an annual event focusing on academic research, but invites contributions from other practitioners to provide a wider context for academic papers. Priority is given to researchers from Zimbabwe and doctoral students working on related topics. Academics and non-academics are equally welcome. Two ABORNE Exchange Visit Grants

In conjunction with its annual conference, ABORNE is offering two Exchange Visit Grants for borderland scholars to work for 2 months at the hosting institution, the Centre for African Studies of the University of Edinburgh. The call for applications is open until 12th December 2011.
